Campfire S'mores

Posted by Little Trekkers on 16th May 2023

This camping tradition isn’t just for the kids! And you don't need to be camping to enjoy this summertime treat!

Traditional Campfire S'mores are easy to make and very tasty! Ideal for summer campfires, camping trips, BBQS and more! Perfectly toasted marshmallows melting between delicious chocolate biscuits!

Yes they sound messy, that's because they are! But that’s part of the true S’mores experience!

Once you have your campfire burning it only takes about 5 minutes to make S'mores, so there’s not much waiting time before you get to indulge in this the simple creation. Kids and adults love to make them!

Our recipe is for making S’mores over the campfire, but you can also make them over a BBQ too.

What you need for a small campfire-

  • Newspaper or tumble dryer fluff
  • Small sticks or kindling
  • Dry logs or larger sticks
  • Lighter or matches
  • Buckets for water or large bottle of water to extinguish your fire

How to make your campfire-

The beach is a safe place to have a campfire especially if we have hot weather and the countryside is very dry.

  • Pick your spot, some beaches have pre-built fire pits, if your not that lucky then don't worry!
  • Dig a fire pit. To protect your fire you want to make sure you have protection from the elements. Large stones are perfect.
  • To start your fire use the newspaper or fluff, it lights easily then add your kindling or smaller dry wood. Gather dry wood from the beach or take kindling and a few logs with you, you don't need much. It only needs to be a small fire.
  • Add the logs and let it burn!

WARNING!

It is very important to make sure you extinguish your fire properly, if you are at the beach, get your kids to collect buckets of water from the sea or simply take some bottles of water with you. Its also important to discuss safe behaviour around the fire, so your children know to be super sensible.

If you use metal toasting forks, remember the ends get very hot in the fire, let them cool before touching!

Please don't light your camp fire in woodland, grass or crop fields or National Park land.

What you need for S’mores-

  • A bag of Pink and White marshmallows (not mini marshmallows, they are not easy to roast over an open flame!)
  • A packet of Chocolate digestive biscuits

How to make your S'mores-

Using marshmallow toasting forks or wooden skewers (top tip, soak the skewers in water before using over the flame) toast your marshmallow how you like it.

Have two biscuits ready, both chocolate side up and place your marshmallow on top of one using the other to squash the marshmallow down and eat! Its so yummy!

Alternatively, you can wrap the biscuits with the marshmallow in the middle tightly in some foil and place it on a BBQ and leave it to melt for about 2 minutes on each side. Careful when removing as the foil will be hot. Peel the foil off carefully and enjoy!
