Plastic Free Week: What Patagonia Is Doing for the Planet ?

Posted by Little Trekkers on 25th Jun 2025

Plastic Free July is here, a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution. It’s all about making small, simple swaps to reduce single-use plastic and protect our planet. At Little Trekkers, we believe that even the tiniest muddy bootprints can lead to big change — which is why we’re getting involved and shining a light on one of the outdoor brands truly walking the talk: Patagonia.

Here at Little Trekkers, we’re always looking for ways to explore more responsibly, and during Plastic Free Month, we want to shine a light on one of the outdoor brands really walking the talk-Patagonia.

Did you know that Patagonia is on a mission to move away from virgin plastic in its products and packaging?

What’s the problem?

A lot of outdoor gear is made with synthetic materials, many of which are made from plastic. It’s strong, lightweight, and waterproof… but it doesn’t break down. That means it sticks around in landfills, oceans, and even the air we breathe.

What’s Patagonia doing about it?

Patagonia is rethinking how they use plastic, and here’s how they’re leading the way:

  • Using more recycled materials: Like old plastic bottles, fishing nets, and worn-out gear, instead of making new plastic.

  • Cutting out virgin polyester: They’ve already removed it from their most popular products (and they’re working on the rest).

  • Innovating natural alternatives: Think wool, hemp, and cotton, responsibly sourced and built to last.

  • Tackling packaging waste: By reducing unnecessary packaging and ditching single-use plastic wherever possible.

They’re not perfect (yet!), but they’re being open and honest, and constantly pushing for better.

Why it matters to us

We believe in letting kids enjoy the wild, without harming it. Supporting brands like Patagonia means helping protect the planet for the next generation of muddy explorers, puddle jumpers, and forest adventurers.

So this Plastic Free July, let's all think a little more about what we buy, how we use it, and what we leave behind.
