NATALIE (@NATEDEN), MUM OF 2 SHARES HER FAVOURITE WALKS IN THE LAKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK WITH US AS PART OF OUR NATIONAL PARK WALKS WITH KIDS SERIES, FOR NATIONAL WALKING MONTH.

GRIZEDALE FOREST

This is one of our favourite places to visit as a family with a range of activities available: mountain bike trails, forest Segway, GoApe, play area and various walking trails ranging from 1 mile to 10 miles in distance. As part of the Forestry Commission, Grizedale often has child friendly trails that the children love (Superworm trail coming soon). My children love discovering the many sculptures amongst the forest and enjoy ticking off all the ones they have found so far.

Walking trail guides and a list of the sculptures can be found HERE.

TARN HOWS

The Tarn is near Coniston and is a fantastic walk for little legs and is both pram and wheelchair accessible, providing gorgeous scenery and stunning views for all. Tarn Hows has a National Trust car park, with toilets and an ice cream truck (in peak season) available. The circular 2 mile walk isn’t strenuous and provides an idyllic picnic spot.

EASDALE TARN

The tarn is located in Grasmere, it is a favourite walk of mine personally. It’s roughly 5 miles circular, depending on where you park (I recommend the lower car park of The Lancrigg hotel, which they open up to non-residents, as this is an ideal starting point). Although there is incline and steps it’s not too difficult and can be managed by the more capable of young walkers, with my eldest child completing this at age 4 for the first time. On the way up you can see Sour Milk Gill waterfall and stunning views of the area. Once you reach Easdale Tarn, it’s lovely for a swim if you’re feeling brave (I never am) but the children and their dad enjoy a quick dip.
