Lets celebrate Earth Day

Posted by Little Trekkers on 16th Apr 2024

What is Earth day?

Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22nd, is a global event dedicated to environmental protection and raising awareness about the importance of conservation. It serves as a reminder of the critical need to take action to preserve our planet and its natural resources for future generations.

Here at Little Trekkers, we're thrilled to showcase the Nature Nurture kids sets, a collection that embodies our commitment to fostering a deep connection between children and the natural world. Nature Nurture believes that every child has the potential to make a positive impact on the planet, and their sets are designed to empower young minds to do just that. From gardening kits that teach children about sustainable food production to wildlife observation kits that encourage curiosity about the creatures that inhabit our ecosystems, Nature Nurture inspires a sense of wonder and responsibility for the natural world.

    So, join us in celebrating Earth Day with Nature Nurture and the incredible work they do to inspire and educate the next generation of environmental stewards, here is what Nature Nurture has to say;

"Here at Nature Nurture Kids it is our mission to give children the opportunity to take responsibility to look after their world. Our unique handmade kits have been designed to not only give children the chance to immerse themselves within nature, but to also actively help nature, creating a sense of responsibility, care and connection. If ever there were a time to nurture the Earth, it is now."

Activities your Little Trekkers can do to celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day is a fantastic opportunity to engage kids in fun and educational activities that foster a love for the environment and promote eco-conscious behaviors.

Here are ten activities perfect for celebrating Earth Day with kids:

  1. Plant a Tree: Teach kids about the importance of trees in our ecosystem by planting a tree in your yard or a local green space. You can also participate in community tree-planting events organised by environmental organisations or National Trust.

  2.  Clean Up: Organise a neighborhood or beach clean-up with your kids to help remove litter and debris from natural areas. Make it a game by seeing who can collect the most rubbish, and discuss the importance of keeping our planet clean.

  3.

This fully functional Litter Picker Kit includes all the items and safety equipment your little ones need to get started on cleaning up the planet.

  4. Nature Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of items for kids to find outdoors, such as different types of leaves, rocks, flowers, or animal tracks. Encourage them to explore nature while learning about biodiversity.

  5. DIY Bird Feeders: Make bird feeders using recycled materials, such as plastic bottles or cardboard tubes. Hang them in your garden and observe the birds that visit. This activity teaches kids about the importance of providing food and habitat for wildlife.

  6. Look after the bees: Bees are some of the best pollinators in the world, which is vital for the world's food supply. It's estimated that 1/3 of global food production is reliant on insect pollination. Bees are specifically responsible for 70 of approximately 100 crop species that feed 90% of the world's population.

  7.

The Bee Rescue Kit – our handy kit offering tired bees a boost. The DIY Seed Bomb Kit – a hands-on kit producing organic wildflowers, specially chosen for bees.Bee-patterned children's gardening gloves, snug fit and perfect for making Seed Bombs. For ages 3 – 9 years.

6- Nature Journaling: Take kids on a nature walk and encourage them to observe and record their observations in a journal. They can sketch plants, animals, and landscapes, and write about their experiences in nature.

7- Days out: Explore national parks, country parks, zoos, farms, or aquariums virtually to learn about different ecosystems and the animals that inhabit them. Many organisations offer online resources and live webcams that allow kids to experience nature from the comfort of home.

8- Watch Environmental Films: Screen age-appropriate documentaries or movies about environmental issues and conservation efforts. Use these films as a springboard for discussions about how kids can make a positive impact on the planet.

9- Learn About Recycling: Teach kids about the importance of recycling and how to properly sort recyclable materials. Set up a recycling station at home and involve them in the process of sorting and disposing of waste responsibly.

10- Eco-Friendly Crafts: Create Earth Day-themed crafts using sustainable materials, such as recycled paper, cardboard, or fabric scraps. Kids can make Earth Day posters, reusable shopping bags, or eco-friendly decorations for the home. You could have a go at  making your own seed bombs.
