1- MAPS AND APPS
Bust out Google maps the OS app or a paper map and plot your route. What do you fancy? Views? Streams? Animals? Check the key and find footpaths to take you where you want to go. If you’re new to map reading, or just can’t work it out, apps like Kamoot are fab, as they offer tried and tested routes, with steps by step instructions and photographs.
2- HIDDEN GEMS
Social media hashtags and location tags are your friend here. If you’re visiting a new area search hashtags like #visitcornwall #visitcheltenham #yorkshirelife or ask for local recommendations in your Instagram stories. We also follow @mood.swingsinsta for heads up about their fab swings popping up around the country.
3- OLD FAVOURITES
Some of our walks earn an affectionate nickname such as the ‘digger walk’ and the ‘Pooh stick bridge walk’. These walks are our go to if we suddenly feel the need to get out of the house or if we’re asked to suggest somewhere to meet up with friends. They’re usually on the shorter side and have some sort of ‘attraction’ incorporated.
4- RECOMMENDATIONS FROM FRIENDS
People often think of us if they’ve been out on a great walk. Sometimes, it’s one we’ve already done, but sometime it’s new to us and it goes on our adventure list. We love a list and regularly update ours with new places we’ve heard about, that way we never waste the day trying to decide where to go, we just pick one and head out!
