Sledging at last.

Like most of the UK, we’ve had more snow than usual this winter, but, for us anyway, never really enough for a good sledging session in the absence of bitter, bitter winds. All four of us were therefore super-excited to celebrate the start of Spring with two snow days (during which I was up North on a school residential and the wind was the coldest I’ve ever experienced anywhere in the world, including Lapland!) followed by a calm Saturday with no plans that couldn’t be cancelled.

Harry’s most anticipated day of the summer is the day they bale the big field at the caravan. He was a bit disappointed to discover we weren’t there the day it was cut, but his sadness was short-lived. On baling day, I was met early in the morning by a very excited boy yelling: “Mum, there’s a whole herd of tractors out there!”

Harry recently turned 10, which is a milestone worth marking, but all Harry wanted to do was “go to a forest and mess about with ropes and stuff”. Thankfully, a few of his friends were willing to join in, so off we all went for the cheapest birthday party ever.

We started a new chapter in our family this September – I went back to my part-time teaching job after a glorious 3 year career break. So when Harry requested a den-building, campfire-type birthday party, I was delighted to discover that Castle Espie would do all the organising for us.
