Like most of the UK, we’ve had more snow than usual this winter, but, for us anyway, never really enough for a good sledging session in the absence of bitter, bitter winds. All four of us were therefore super-excited to celebrate the start of Spring with two snow days (during which I was up North on a school residential and the wind was the coldest I’ve ever experienced anywhere in the world, including Lapland!) followed by a calm Saturday with no plans that couldn’t be cancelled.

If you ever plan to visit Aberdeenshire, come in the autumn! It’s the one dry (ish) season and the whole countryside bursts into brilliant colour in one final blaze before winter sets in. But do remember your wellies – this is Scotland, after all, so ‘dry’ is just a relative term. And so this is the perfect time of year for Mini to test a pair of Bogs wellies!
We could have easily stayed inside on this particular Sunday afternoon - the older boys especially had no motivation to get outside....and I had the usual piles of laundry to sort.......But just as we were about to light the fire and turn on Netflix the clouds started to clear, and after 24 hours of heavy rain the mountain peaks were just becoming visible through the murk.
I don’t know what they’ve been feeding James at school but he has shot up overnight and seems to be growing out of everything quicker than we can replace it. I was frantically trying to get everybody out the door for a family walk up our local hill- Dumyat, on the outskirts of Stirling to find James’ feet had grown a size in the space of week.
