Last month we found ourselves down south again - the joyous occasion of picking up our new puppy Trix from Middlesbrough meant we spent a few days in North Yorkshire and places on the way.

My heart lies on the Northumberland coastline where I spent most of my childhood, and so we often head south when the working week is over. I’m all for fish and chips, bustling harbours and gift shops but we’re happiest on a deserted beach. One of my favourite get-away-from-it-all spots is Ross Sands, located between Bamburgh castle and Holy Island.
If you get the chance visit Mowbray Park in Sunderland over the Christmas period.
Despite the wet weather we decided to visit Beamish Wild and I'm so glad we did. We had a cracking day. The boys loved the adventure playground and spiders web.
Day 1 of the school Easter Holidays couldn’t come quickly enough in our house – we’d decided at Christmas that we were going to break out the big tent (as opposed to the little 3-man tent we squeeze into for short trips) for the first time in 3 years and get away for a week wherever the weather seemed best.
We’ve had a lot of rain recently. April this year turned out to be the wettest on record and, so far at least, May has been pretty wet too. One of the good things about having a lot of rain is that our waterfalls are at their most spectacular.
Despite our love affair with camping we recently decided to take the plunge and buy a caravan. Hoping not only to extend our season but to make it easier to get away for weekends. We decided to try our first Camping and Caravanning Club rally at Thorpe Thewles and we had a scream.
Mowbray Park in Sunderland hosted a Sunderland against the public sector cuts day recently. The boys had fun dancing in the park to the band before having their faces painted.
In the last couple of weeks Ruby has fallen in love with her balance bike and spends much of her time glued to it. She rides next to her Daddy on his big bike and now refuses to go in the seat attached to the back of my bike. Independence up another notch!
Over the Christmas period we visited Mini Moos Adventure Land in County Durham. There was lots of festive fun to be had including a little indoor ice rink and a lovely reindeer.
We escaped to Gibside at the weekend, a local National Trust property. Gibside is like a grand forest garden. We walked for miles through the woodland, or should I say some of us did :)
We spent a nice weekend camping over Easter at Highside Farm in Middleton-in-Teesdale, County Durham. Highside Farm is a tiny rural site with only 5 pitches. It's a bit like camping in someone's back garden but essentially that's exactly what we did.
