How to Make Cress Egg Heads
Next time you treat yourself to egg and soldiers for breakfast, don’t throw out the shells. Instead transform them into these funky cress egg heads and then in a week or so it’ll be time for some egg and cress sarnies.
We have chosen an Springtime and Easter theme for our egg heads.
What you will need
- Egg shells
- Cotton wool
- Cress seeds
- PVA glue
- Tissue paper
- Selection of craft supplies e.g. pipe cleaners and googly eyes
How you do it
Cover the egg shell in slightly watered down PVA glue
Select the colour of tissue paper you would like to cover your egg in. Tear the paper into small pieces (around 3cm(ish) in size works best). Cover the egg with the pieces of paper.
Once fully covered in tissue paper, leave to dry.
Once dry your egg is ready to decorate. Here we have added googly eyes, a big red nose and a smile.
Next fill your egg with cotton wool and dampen with water.
Sprinkle a few pinches of cress seeds onto the cotton wool and place on a sunny windowsill to grow.
For best results the cotton wool needs to be kept damp and you should see growth within the first few days.
Our Crafty Tips
- The cress should take about a week to grow before it's ready to be cut and put into a yummy egg and cress sandwich or salad.
