Articles in Category: Den Building

When we were all young just about any old blanket or box could be turned into a den inside the house, and logs, sticks and any old green stuff served the same purpose in the local woods. It never occurred to us that den building would become such a focus and almost seen as a dying art as all our Little Trekkers have been doing the same since they could move the cushions off sofas themselves. Yet apparently it’s becoming a lost activity amongst children, so we thought we’d share some den building activities for you to do at home. All things den-like reside here … send us your ideas and photos and we’ll publish them too!

How To Build A Willow Den

Building a Living Willow Den is easier than it looks and loads of fun. It will last for years, continually changes, and fits in naturally in the garden. Children love playing in willow structures as they feel like a ‘proper den’ rather than a shop bought ‘play house’. Schools and early years’ settings focus on creating natural play settings and Willow Dens are a perfect addition. A great way for children to enjoy being outdoors throughout the year.
