Kylie's Kreatures Holiday in Dubrovnik
Following their recent hard work in the Little Trekkers’ warehouse, Kylie’s Kreatures were given some well deserved time off. Fun, fun fun in the sun, sun, sun was in order as they visited “the pearl of the Adriatic”, Dubrovnik in Croatia.
After a slight delay in setting off from Manchester, due to, gulp … technical problems with the airplane, Kylie’s Kreatures were soon settled into their seats paying more attention than usual to the safety procedures.
On arriving at Dubrovnik they were whisked off in a taxi to their luxury hotel on the edge of the peninsula. They couldn’t wait to chill out with the latest blockbuster around the pool and breathe in the sea air.
After a day or two lazing around and the odd dip in the pool, Yellow and Red were ready for a spot of sightseeing.
Any visit to Dubrovnik has to include a trek around the City walls. Whilst enjoying a fizzy drink in a local café, a very kind waiter gave them some advice on the best time to visit.
"In the day it is very hot, very busy, with many footsteps" he warned.
"You can go later in evening, much better then".
Sound advice… however completely ignored by our intrepid travellers. Instead they decided on a very hot morning to walk the 2km route. The many steps along the way were exhausting, with the summer heat and their small little legs, but the views below made their efforts worthwhile.
They saw the patchwork blanket of orange roofs, many of which had to have their tiles replaced as a result of the siege on Dubrovnik in 1991 during the war which led to the break up of Yugoslavia.
Having made their way around the walls they walked back down to the Placa, through the Ploče Gate for a well earned lunch of grilled squid (sorry Squid & Me) and another ice cold fizzy drink.
After a week soaking up the rays, Kylie’s Kreatures came back to good old Blighty. Yellow looks a little more orange and Red a darker shade of scarlet! Their next planned adventure is going to be a little closer to home, watch this space...
