Make Your Own Fun Stuff to do Outdoors Journal
Keeping a journal is great fun. It doesn’t matter how old you are, get the whole family involved. You can get muddy, wet, covered in sand or snow on your quest to find interesting stuff to write about, paint or collect. You can even make hand and feet print pictures…Hmm, OK it looks a bit odd when mum and dad do this, so yeah, leave that to the kids!
Starting Your Journal
You’re gonna be putting all sorts of stuff in this journal so it needs to be big enough and strong enough to hold all the exciting things you paint, write about and collect.
You can make the front and back covers for your journal using the 2 sides of a cardboard box or even a cereal packet. Cover the card with coloured paper or even better, lots of pictures, tickets from days out, dried leaves, flowers or shells to make up a collage.
Punch two holes in the bottom of each piece of card and tie the two pieces of card together with string or ribbon. You can keep adding pages to your journal as you go….
Now you’ve made your journal its time to add lots of exciting projects to it for the year ahead.
As far as keeping a journal is concerned anything goes. Here are some of our ideas, but we know you’re all a very creative bunch and will have a lot more to add to this list.
- Make a nature map of your own back garden and write and draw all the bugs, birds, plants and trees you can see.
- Fill in our Print Off and Do projects throughout the year for bird spotting, being a creepy crawlie detective and lots more!
- Make pictures from leaves and dried flowers, collages from little shells you collect on the beach.
- Write stories about what you’ve done and where you’ve been. Do you know a secret hiding place for a hedgehog, a red squirrel, the Gruffalo?
- Keep mementos of your favourite days out.
All of us at Little Trekkers HQ along with our amazing bunch of Little Trekkers Ambassadors are going to give you loads of ideas on how to make the most of the natural world available at your fingertips. Throughout the year we’ll be giving you pages to print off and fill in to add to your journal.
Then at the end of the year you can look back and remember all the fun things you’ve done this year and get ready to start a brand new one for next year.
Nature in Your Own Back Garden
You really don’t have to go far to find interesting things to write or draw about. Even if you live in a busy town your own back garden will be full of wildlife of all shapes and sizes.
We’d love to hear about how you’re getting on with your journals. Send us the stuff you’ve done on your favourite days. What did you enjoy? What did you do?
