Quick Barbecue Sauce

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion - finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove - crushed (you can add more if you like)
  • 100ml tomato ketchup
  • 50ml cider vinegar
  • 50ml water
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp black treacle
  • 1tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (smoked is best)
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • salt and pepper to season

  1. Fry your onion and garlic gently in the olive oil for 5 minutes until the onion has softened.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients to the onion and garlic.
  3. Bring to the boil and then simmer gently for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove from the heat then taste and season to your liking.
  5. To make your sauce a smoother consistency, blend with a hand blender. This is entirely personal preference.
  6. Use as a marinade for your barbecue meats and vegetable skewers, or as a sauce for your finished burgers.
